The Personal Information that we process is used for providing and improving the Service. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.
Information Collection and Use
Silema is designed to help people living alone stay safe by prompting periodic check-ins. If you do not respond in time, the app can notify your emergency contact.
Depending on how you use Silema and what you enable, the app may process:
- Emergency contact details (such as name, phone number, and/or email address) that you provide or select from your address book.
- Location data (coarse/fine) to include your last known location as part of an emergency alert, if you enable location sharing.
- Check-in activity such as timestamps related to when you last checked in.
- Device and diagnostics data such as app performance and crash information (via third-party services listed below).
App Permissions
Silema requests only the permissions needed for safety functionality and reliable background operation. You can manage permissions at any time in your device settings. If you deny certain permissions, some features may not work as intended.
- Internet: Used to send an emergency alert to our server when connectivity is available.
- Contacts (READ_CONTACTS): Used to help you pick your emergency contact directly from your phonebook without typing details manually.
- Location (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION / ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION): Used to attach your last known location to an emergency alert if you enable location sharing.
- Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): Used to show the check-in screen even while you are using other apps, so you don’t miss a check-in.
- Receive boot completed (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED): Used to restore scheduled background checks after the device restarts.
- Phone call (CALL_PHONE): Used to automatically call your emergency contact in an emergency scenario (for example, if you do not respond and there is no internet connection), if you have provided a phone number and granted permission.
- Storage (legacy access): On older Android versions, the app or its libraries may request storage access for compatibility. This is not used to access personal files unrelated to the app’s functionality.
